Catch Mike playing to a St. Patty’s Crowd at Luna Blue!

Wednesday, 17 March 2010

It’s time for the Luna Blue Bar’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party. There will be live music with Mike Grabow (5-7) and Brent Parkin (8-11). We will have drink specials, prizes and give-aways, and an appearance by the legendary Ginger the Shamrock Bikini Girl.

We will be selling Papa T’s Irish/Mexican Stew for $50 pesos a bowl with money going to the Pet Shelter. And as we do every year, girls in green thongs get a free margarita. In addition there is a Peep Meet happening during the party AND we will be cebrating our friend Rick Cole’s birthday that night. It should be a great time. Please stop by and join us. – Luna Blue of Facebook

Guitar Music Keeps the Heart Inspired in Playa del Carmen

ChilaquilesLast Thursday, my friend Andrew and I wanted to spend the day on the beach but first we needed to find breakfast. We started to hunt for food on Avenue CTM in north Playa del Carmen where we found a little place to eat chilequiles and fresh juice for about $30 pesos each.  We ate hefty portions and with our bellies full,we made our way to Waves Salon in the Colosio to visit an old friend. Of course, the barber cut was as good as the chilled out conversation under the palapa. Trevor, a former Albertan, singer songwriter and hairstylist extraordinaire, has been in Playa since 2007.  We jammed for a couple of hours on his roof, easily finding inspiration gazing out at the breathtaking view of the Caribbean Ocean

Me and Andy finally headed to the beach at around one o’clock and dug our toes into the sand for the afternoon to throw down some lyrics for an upcoming song I’ve been working on. Whenever we start to jam on the beach, a magical thing starts to happen, and a crowd begins to draw. First, its usually one or two older tourists, usually Americans.  Then younger people stop, some sit and tap a beat. Then bikini clad women with their accompanying menfolk not far behind. Today Andrew counted 30 or more smiling faces. I played for them for an hour, all original material and everyone was at peace and enjoyed themselves. Just another day in paradise!

New haircut from Waves Salon Playa!BTW…Trevor and his crew do really great stuff with hair! Check out Waves Salon Playa. For more information.

Playing Nightly Gigs on La Quinta in Playa!

Picture of me and my buddyHey guys, I am just playing every day here in Playa. Life’s really great down here. There’s lots of pretty girls and tonnes of tequila and beer.  If you get into town and you don’t know where to find me, its easy! I play most days on the beach at Wickey’s Bar and Grill… Then at night I alternate gigs; Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays you can find me playing to a happy crowd at Siesta Fiesta between 8th and 10th on La Quinta (Fifth Avenue) and on alternating dates I play evenings at Luna Blue hotel.
